? about triple tree top piece

I need a new top piece of the triple tree. Are the 78, 79 and 80 all the same? I have an xs1100 special. I see them on ebay from $20-$50. Condition is not important since I plan to paint it anyway,....just want to make sure I get the right one.

    Thanks!!

It MUST be from a '79-'81 SPECIAL ! The upper and lower need to line up, and the fork tubes are a different OD between the Standard and the Special. I think the one you showed on ebay is a standard. The frame number will tell, and I'm 99.9% sure 2H7 is Standard only. Check this site for the proper numbers first.

2H7 IS a Standard and that upper clamp won't work on your Special.

        3H3 is a 79 Special, 3J6 is an 80 Special, 4H3 is a 80 MNS, 4R0 is a 81 Special, and 4W1 is a 81 MNS. Any of those should work

I have a really nice powdercoated one for a 79 special that I wouldn't mind parting with.

            Where'd that come from??
The tubes are the same O.D. for all of them.
