Yeah, Harley got a huge break.
The memory plays tricks after all these years maybe it was around 86/87 when it ended... Anyway don't hold me to that.

I do remember the only 750's at the time were special edition club level racing bikes like the FZ750 Yamaha and the VFR750R interceptor Honda. Both of these were excellent bikes but not many of each were made.

I remember the first time I dug into a VFR750R and saw that Honda really did understand how screwed up the standard V4's they were making were and they really did know how to fix it. That's blaspheme to Honda lovers but at my age, I don't rightly care...

    Geezer

      exchange rate

I do recall that exchange rates in that era, were very skewed compared to what we have been used to lately. The average person doesnt realize how much affect those rates have on the prices of foreign goods, at least then , but perhaps now I suppose. If I recall properly, I remember Honda CBX s being offered for ridiculously low prices in the mid eighties, prolly for all the reasons being mentioned above. So low that i was tempted to buy one new in addition to the one that I had at the time. The full zoot blue and white ones with fairings and bags, was under three thou for a new one. Try to find a well used one for that now, hahaa.

Yeah, same here. Glut on the market. Pretty soon Yamaha dealers were all undercutting each other on price, even though they weren't supposed to.
