  • Fastest E.T.S Ive done on my 1980 XS

I race in the motorcycle class out at our dragstrip here in Tucson. Made 5 passes on last Fridays test and tune, best run to date also, and our elevation is not too good, 3500 ft above sea level without weather corrections ( I heard it was about 5200 ft Friday night). My best run is was a 12.64 @ 104.75, with a 1.92 60' time. I love this bike, believe it or not, this time was also with leather bags on it and a huge rear seat. I am looking to buy another XS to set up for strictly drag racing. The only thing I did to the bike was to remove the mufflers.......I love that wheel coming off the ground about 6 inches on the 1-2 shift!!!

Any transmission problems? Have you had first and second gears undercut...yet? 12.64? Impressive! How many miles on the ol' gal?

I haven't had the gears undercut yet, I have heard they eventually have problems with 1-2 gear, but I havent had any other problems other than the usual noise. My dial in for saturday night was 12.90, I ran 4 12's saturday night a 12.90, 12.89, 12.80, 12.70. My best MPH Sat night was 105.89. I can wait until I can get it tuned (I dont know when the last time that was done), my Miles on the speedo read 24,000-I am not sure if its original, but since riding it for the past year, it rides like it could be the original miles....

I have just built a Wiseco 1179 Big Bore kit, and will be installing it in the VERY near future. I had the trans work done while the engine was opened up , and the trans WAS right there... New clutch also. I want all that new found power getting to the ground, not bouncing around inside the crankcase. I have never timed it in a quarter before, but I do know that it won't touch the wife's FJ1100, YET...There is an 1/8 mile track near by, but I don't know if they allow street bikes, or a "Run What ya Brung" nite. We do have the Texas Motorplex nearby, but again, I don't know if they allow bikes. How do you launch? Full release of the clutch, or just ease it out?

I run the bike with a cheap Cheng-Shin tire, no burnout just a dry hop, stage and release the clutch fully at 6,000 rpm, I shift at 8,000 rpm. Just lucky so-far......

may 2 was the street machine show down here and the xs wasn't totaly finished with what I had in plan but ran out of time, so I raced it anyway. 9.80s all day and thats at 5280 the big mile high altitude no air shift. I finaly got a tire to work even though its half worn down on only one race day. low 9.s by the end of the summer. air shifter, and more boost!

Not sure if that would have been 1/8 mile. Thats too slow inthe 1/8 mile for a turbo'd xs, I would love to see a Turbo'd one though!!!

                      Well,

I'm hoping to put Godzilla on the local straights sometime this summer just to see what it'll do, I, too, have the "little" big bore, and want to see what I can do with it! Have to do a bit more tuning and some SS brake lines before then though!!
TurboX79 actually races his, so I believe his times, have seen a few photos he's posted of his burnouts!! Couldn't see this last picture!

                      79SF "The Teacher" . . .basket case!
                      History shows again and again,

                        9's

Well how come i'm told that our bikes wont go that fast? gearing tires wont take it etc?I need nines and i need them now! Oh sorry i'm just a speed junkie needen a fix.I've seen and read the 11's second stories of a brand new xs but i have to see the nines to be a blever.I can do do burnouts at least till tire gets sticky enough to flip me off the back.( hay there has to be one in every crowd) Other than a turbo what has been fixed changed or altered?Recently heard of a guy putting a turbo from a mittsubihi on a gsxr heard that runs like a raped .....

Hey Turbo, is there anywhere I can get some info on possibly turbo charging mine? Your bike looks bad!! How did you lower it? What is the front rim from, I noticed it had spokes. I am just wanting to get into the 11's or so.. Nice burnout pictures also!!
