  • Good Parts Source

Mike Lalonde http://www.mikesxs.com or Mike's XS has many parts that fit the XS1100. He is reproducing just about everything for the XS650. His parts are excellent quality.

I just read the thread where some one bought a master cylinder for $76 from Parts 'N More. Mike's XS has the exact same part for $67 and NO shipping charge.

There are many XS650 parts that are stock for the XS1100. It's good to check Mike's XS before you buy. Who knows, if he gets enough requests, maybe he'll reproduce XS1100 parts.

Actually, I don't think that the master cylinder is the same part. A 13mm unit is listed as the "Yamaha OEM" unit for $67, and a 16mm unit is listed as the "Universal" unit for $76. (Less effort/travel with the 16?) MikesXS is related somehow to partsnmore, I'll be finding out more today. I'm asking about ignition coils he has listed for the 650. It appears to be an exact reproduction of ours except that it takes separate wires, rather than the molded in type. $26 ea! After I talk with mike today I'll order some and give a report.

I've seen those coils and wondered the same thing. Let us know how they work.

Mike of MikesXS has no interest in selling parts for the 11, and he clearly stated this in his e-mail. He did recommend the larger master cylinder for the 11, due to the 2 front brakes. The coils I mentioned may have the holes for mounting rotated 90 degrees. I spoke with a very friendly woman at the store (Mrs. Mike?) who gladly took one out of the package to look for me. Perhaps Mike was simply having an off day. Anyway, I guess the only way to truly know about those coils would be to buy a set. If they don't bolt up the same way, they lose a lot of their appeal. I think he has red turn signal lenses that would fit the Special, but I think you'd just need to buy them and see if they fit.

                parts source

These pilot jets are destined for my 79 special but would like a set for my 78 as well.......so far I have found 2 used but in good shape a t a local bikeshop and Zanottis has 2 left in stock but has discontinued them.......

Am I imagining this or did I read in a post where someone had rebuilt there mixture screws?.....

Have you found a parts source where these screws are in stock Bill?

I have actually had some luck a couple of years back with re-machining a broken pilot screw for Scott from Calgary. I chucked it in a table-top drill press and reground the point with a fine file and some wet-or-dry sandpaper. I used an unbroken screw as a guide and was able to get a functional unit.

I think my XS1100 and my XS650 have the same carburetors. I think my 650 has Mikuni 34MM CV carbs. What's on the 1100?

If they are in fact the same, you can go to any of the several part suppliers of the 650 for carb parts.

Is there any chance you could verify that? If so, we could order all kinds of parts from mikesxs, without asking him to double check parts compatibility. Thanks!

Oops. The XS1100 used Mikuni BS34 II carbs. I forgot to include that in my last posting.

The XS650 has the same carbs from 1980 through 1983. So you can go to Mike's XS, 650 Central, Thumper Stuff, XS650parts.com and also Rob Reil at http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com

You can find three different Idle mixture screws that fit XS650 carbs at www.mikesxs.com

There are three listed for the BS38CV carbs and one for the BS34CV carbs. Part numbers are 48-5008 ($4), 48-5009 ($4), 48-5010 ($9 - comes with o-ring) and 48-5011 ($9 - comes with spring, washer and o-ring for BS34CV). You can see pictures of them in his catalog or online.
