Need ideas for cleaning, polishing, painting the valve covers

I did this 3 years ago according to the picture timestamp. (Has it really been that long??)

Stripped, scraped, sanded, masked and painted, then further polished the raised parts with a Dremel before spraying with a few coats of clear.

This was my first attempt at painting. Some day I will pull the engine and re-paint it.
