  • Molex or Weatherpak Connectors

Looking for another project over the Winter, and replacing all the Molex connectors might be on the list. I work at a job that has a vast supply of Molex connectors available to me free of charge. But, it's a pain in the butt crimping the terminals. Tips/ideas/suggestions?

Make sure you have the correct crimper, it is an open barrel type. Ebay has them for about $20 and Geezer sells them at Oregon.

Yeah, I have one. Was just curious if anyone has undertaken this project before on this bike. I did a complete harness rebuild on my GS, but I completely removed it from the bike.

Someone in the past changed out all their connectors to weatherpak connectors and spent a large amount of cash on connectors.

I say if you can get the molex for free and want to spend the time go for it.

If you're going to do this, make sure you use ones rated for the circuit current. The OEM connectors used in the ignition switch and alternator circuits were barely adequate when new (which is why they fail after time takes it's toll), you want 30 amp rated plugs (at least higher than 20 amps) at the switch and for the AC and DC output in the alternator circuits.
