Kerker Forks?

    Kerker Forks?

    I just bought a 1979 XS11 special to use for parts. I still have to pick it up, but it really looks nice. I may just dump it's motor and put mine in. It has both a Kerker exhaust and Kerker forks. I never heard of Kerker forks. Does anyone know anything about them?

      How dya know they're Kerker forks? do they have a Kerker sticker on them?

      A lot of new bike parts came with a sticker that would end up stuck on the fork leg.

          Actually, they are Showia forks on the Special. The Standard, IIRC used KYB forks.
          81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

              Doesn't one of them have bushings and the other, not? Please refresh me.

                  Both have upper bushings, the Specials have lowers also...
                  Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

                      Thanks, Steve. I believe that helps with the wear, correct? I would expect the oil in a standard fork to go black before it would in a Special.

                          Fork brace eliminates excessive wear on upper bushing, aside from handling improvements. With upper bushing being among the 'unobtanium', definitely a good reason to utilize a fork brace, but you already knew that.

                              As you say. Mine came with very nice K&N handlebars which i think actually started life on a Honda

                                  It's probably a wash between the forks. While the lower bushing does help with wear, the possible misalignment built into the Special forks due to the brake design is the likely reason Yamaha went ahead and fitted the lower bushings to the Special.

                                          Marty, Steve, I have found that the Standard forks without the lower bush have more stiction than the Special with the bushing.
