I am still working on this LG. I fixed the trans and decided to check the valve clearances before reinstalling the fairing. I read through all the PO's threads about the troubles he encountered with it over the years. He could never pass emissions and had integrated an 02 sensor and some flat slide carbs in his quest.
Anyway I checked all the clearances and it looks as though he re shimmed the valves using the MM numbers with inch feeler gauges. He did not convert the numbers.
Here's the clearances
1 I=.015 E=.009
2 I=.017 E=.016
3 I=.005 E=.012
4 I=.015 E=.023
No wonder it ran crappy and the upper end was abnormally noisy.
I checked compression and 1,3,4 are 150 psi and 2 was 100 dry and 145 wet. So I'm hoping #2 will reseat once it has run a while. It doesn't smoke, so I'm pretty sure the motor is good.
