  • An idea

I think I have an idea as to what may have happened. I don't think the Cam chain tensioner didn't deloy all the way. This may have had some thing to do with it cracking. So I think the chain floated around until it cam off the bottom sproket. The bike was not running at this time I was attempting to start it when the clicking sound began. this is when I stopped at began working backwards.

Does this seem like a reasonilbe rational for what could of happened? I took at good look at it and it didn't seem to cause any damage. Any thing else I should be checking for?

    Tick Tick

Hopefully, hopefully the ticking was not valves colliding with the piston crowns because the cam chain jumped. After you get the cams re-timed a simple compression test will let you know if any valves are bent. I "WOULD NOT !" crank over the engine again until you have the cams in time.
You may have to pull the cams right where the on now rests. Then pull off the left engine cover. From there you can crank the engine over with a wrench until the crank is in the proper position.
Then reinstall the cams in time in the proper position.
    Much luck.

      Cam

I looked at the vals and they seem to be okay. At least no noticable damage. One would think that the vals may show some damage if they hit the piston???

        Valve Damage

If you have the head of, install a set of old spark plugs and turn the head over. Pour some varsol or other solvent into the combustion chambers. Now take a flash light and look up into the ports leading to each valve. If moisture starts to form that valve is bent.
If there is no leakage; YIPPEE!
Start looking elsewhere for your ticky tick.

I would agree withg Ken. The clicking noise is what I heard when my #4 intake valve bent. I removed the head and could not visibly see any problem. The valve was bent soo slightly I could not tell. A bright pen light and a dark garage and it was obvious.
