  • XS11 exhaust question

So I was at Suter's Speed Shop yesterday, and first off, WOW, they had an amazing selection of vintage bikes. Found a lot of XS/XJ parts and at least 4 XS and 3 XJ complete engines, just sitting on a shelf.

My question is, I went with the intention of buying a stock exhaust to use to get the bike running, before I build my exhaust. I found a right set of pipes, but no left. The right side was stamped with 3H3-14721, quick internet search proved to be for the 11. Since I could not find it's matching brother, I looked around more and found a full set of pipes which happened to look like XS11 pipes, especially in the collector area, but could not find any part number on it. The only thing I did find was Y101 stamped near the collector. Is this a factory Yamaha part? Forgot to mention this set did not have a cross over like the stock. Junk yard pro said they might be an old MAC set, but he was basing that off the baffle.

The sizes of the exhaust tubes that fit into the head are the same diameter, but have a slightly longer collar compared to a stock head tube I have. I'm sure they'll be fine with longer bolts but hey, for $40 I said why not? I'm only using them to get the bike started and work out any kinks before I make my new exhaust.

All the oem exhausts had crossover pipes. If you post pics of it we could tell you what they are.

The lefts tend to rust out faster, since, when sitting on the side stand, the moisture collects on that side and causes internal rust. That may be the reason for the difficulty in finding a replacement left side.

+1 what CBug said about left side rusting internally.
                Those ARE early Jardine slip-ons.

Not sure how soon you need an exhaust, however, once I confirm my 4into1 fitment and usage acceptance, I'll no longer need my factory 81H venturer short megaphone exhaust shown below. Once I determine it invaluable to my bike, it will be available.

Very cool! I'm sure members would be delighted. I wish I knew how to adapt Special exhaust to a Standard.
