    Ebay wiring harness

Ebay has a new wiring harness listed from the Netherlands. 1979 to 1980, question is? My XS1100 is a 78E. Is there much difference between the models?

At the moment I have two looms and still chasing wiring faults. So new would be great.
Any input would be great full.

Can you post a link? Dug around on ebay and did not find one like that. Did see a couple 78e harnesses. Way I would go to be sure.

Keep in mind that there's different harnesses depending on where the bike was originally sold. While the basic harness is pretty much the same, differences in lighting requirements in the different markets means that a harness from a European model won't be plug and play if used on a US model. If you have a 'true' aussie version XS, your harness is different from both the US and European versions. Not to say that one of those others couldn't be made to work, but it won't be an exact replacement.

A 'euro' harness should be closer than a US version, but still won't be identical to a 'oceanania' harness as sold originally.

The OEM harness isn't a bad piece as long as it hasn't been hacked to death; 99% of electrical issues on these are poor/dirty connections at the plugs and/or dirty switch contacts, with the occasional broken wire at a switch connection thrown in.

          Hi, Russell -

Is this the harness you're referring to?

            Geez Russell,

            $244 AUST plus S&H ~$50.00 !!

Like Steve said, alot of the problems are corroded connectors...I would/could do a lot of cleaning for that kind of money!

It's been on for months. I emailed him in June about it and offered half what he's asking. He refused and still hasn't sold it. It'll most probably be for a Euro spec E or F, I bet. I don't believe its worth what he's asking

According to the ad the harness is for a XS110S, the European 'Sport' model. So it won't mesh well with a E model because of the many relocated components between these two.

With that said, the price is actually reasonable. Obviously, no one else has priced a new replacement harness for a street vehicle; I have, and this price is roughly what they cost new 'back when'. As we all know, NOS parts rarely go down in price, only up....

                  Hey Russell,

It is posted as a 5K7which is the same as the Aussie 5N5 or 81 RH.

This harness is different to the E model and would not be a direct plug"N"play, you would still need to modify it to fit.

Have you looked on the Aussie XS1100 forum for fixes to your electrical problems. There are a few blokes here in Sydney who may be able to help you sort the issues.

it hasn't sold though......it's sat there for months...which is what makes me think it's priced too high. It's only worth what someone is prepared to pay and, so far, they haven't done so.....

Thanks guys.I will continue working through the harness cleaning the connectors. I can buy a lot of elbow grease with that kind of coin. Was just looking for an easier way out.
