auto cancel stopped working tonight. Never had a problem.
I did a search but unsure where to go Is there a procedure to troubleshoot?
I did try the switch with the key on and off it did not continue to flash.

Is there a plug in part that makes this function any pictures?

    Thanks

There is a small electrical part ( I can't remember what it's called but some whiz here does) that snaps into the back of the speedometer housing that counts the revolutions of the magnet inside there. Those go bad. I've replaced several.

That's most likely what it is. Easy to change.

Which bike?, as location of self canceler may be different.
Won't cancel without bike moving as part of signal is thru speedo.
Also, a bit low voltage at low rpms, it won't cancel either.
Somethin' to check before tottally condemming the self-canceler.
Self-canceler rarely goes bad, and is UNOBTANIUM cept for used. I've replaced ONE in 34yrs.

I'm not familiar with how the XJ electrics work. I do know, however, that if the dash module malfunctions it will cause all sorts of issues.

The one most familiar with the XJ stuff that I know of is trbig. There may be others though.

I would try swapping the cancel unit with another one, doesn't have to be from an XJ, most of the early Yamaha cancel units were the same, just pay attention to the wires in the plug, the wire color positions may be different but can be changed to match yours.

I think you are referring to the "reed switch" that counts revolutions...

Heed Motoman's remark. If you have voltage drops due to dirty connections, your auto-cancel function my go intermittent or fail.
