    Improvement for hard bag lid

Last year I lost one of the lids to my hard bags. I purchased another and painted all parts this summer. But I didn't trust the locking latches and wouldn't put the lids on until I came up with a (better) latch.

I decided that if the front was a hinge then if the back wasn't hooked that the lid couldn't fly off. But I wanted to be able to remove if necessary.

I found a open hinge that seems to be the ticket!

Take a look and see what you think. I have new rubber trim that I need to put on next.

They are called small detachable hook over hinges.

I like that. If I can get a hold of the hinges and a rivet gun I may try this so I stop losing lids. Only lost 2 in the past 7 years. Is there a source for those hinges that's preferred?

I remembered that in the US they are called take-apart hinges. About $3 for two sets. They don't line up with the old holes is the only thing I did't like.

          I got them off Amazon.

I did put a small plate on the inside of the lid to spread the load.

A safety cable is a good idea no matter what hinge or latch you use.

The inmates from the local detention center could care less what those hunks of ABS cam off of.
