I get numbing on right hand at about 60mph because of the vibration. Otherwise everything else and all other speeds are very smooth. I do not want to change my stock grips. Are there any dampers or bar ends I can buy to help with this? I see them on ebay and other cycle sites, but due to the nature of the right grip,...I don't see how they would be installed without slicing and dicing my throttle. Advice? Thanks!

If you are getting that much vibration, there is something else going on. Fix the cause of the vibration. These bikes are not Hardleys, and are not meant to vibrate your teeth out. Make sure your wheels are properly balanced (please tell me you got new tires!) and your forks are properly aligned.1980 XS850SG - Sold

I agree, I've ridden thousands of miles and haven't had a vibration issue. My hand has been known to go numb (both of them AND my tail piece too) from being in one position too long though.Greg

That is some serious vibration and I agree not the norm for these bikes. You might want to check your motor mounts on the right side to make sure you don't have something loose or coming apart. Strange that it is only happening at around 60mph. How old are the tires.... did the bike sit parked for any amount of time. The reason I ask is because I had mine sit up for a fairly long spell and my tire on the front would shimmy every once and a while. Replacing it made that go away. The tire had developed a bad spot from sitting on the tire for too long. Hope you find the source of your problem. How does the bike run and idle? Have you synchronized the carbs lately?2 - 80 LGs bought one new

Motor mounts
check your upper motor mounts. They only get torqued to 48lbs but the clymers has a mis print that called for 72. If the PO over torqued them and now you have some metal on metal, that will cause that vibration.mack

Vibration
I find it interesting that you only notice your right hand in relation to vibration.
Beyond what has been suggested as to the cause,...bar end weights will certainly help..I have heard of people putting fishing weights(lead)in the bars others have filled them with sand?
There is no need to slice and dice the grips...The throttle side can be done by removing the switch assembly...on the left cut out the end of the grip install the weights ....and cap the end with #1 the plug that often comes with aftermarket grips #2 a cap designed to plug electrical conduit,a coin or something of your own design78standard,79 & 80 Specials; 2 x 650 Maxims; 4 x RD350's; yz450; 2 x Honda tlr's;2x jt1 mini.

metal on metal
The uppers won't be too tight. Look for metal on metal in the damper itself. There should be about a 1/32 inch space there. If the two plates are touching, thats your issue. Mine had a bad vibration at 48-5200 rpm until I re-did my dampers.mack

Harmonics
If everything is right and tight and you still have the vibration then it is most likely harmonics between your bars and the bike at that certain RPM. It can happen only on one side because of the grips, switch pods, mirrors, etc that you have bolted to the bars might set up a different harmonic on one end only.
You can change the harmonics in the bars by filling them with #6 shot. It is best to remove both grips so you can leave about 1/2" depth at each bar end for a silicone sealant plug to keep all those little balls from running out on the floor next time you remove the bars because you forgot they are in there.Mike Giroir
