Still looking for a back tire, any one tried the conti. Go rear tire. Trying to get around 10k if possible any more? I have run the conti. tour before and got 12k and 10k. I hate to beat a dead horse, but any help would be appreciated.

Hi Boatdoctor,
Tire choice is a very personal thing. YMMV really does apply to tires. Many of us are cheap bastards so we tend to run the lower cost tires which ofcourse do not offer high mileage.
Conti have a good reputation. But the general consensus seems to be that even the expensive tires are not lasting the distance they used to just a few years ago.
My own choices are even more restricted due to 17" rear wheel. I was happy to get 5,000 miles out of a Shinko712 with probably a thousand miles left in it.
not what you are looking for just an example.

You might get better responses if you would say what you are driving and whether it is stock or modified. What I mean by modified is what size rear wheel do you have on the bike. They are sometimes changed by previous owners.2 - 80 LGs bought one new

I don't know of any rear tires that'll go 10k any more. The tire I now use is the Shinko 712. You'll only get about half that on one, but they're also half price of the other tires. That keeps good, fresh rubber on the ground for me. I order at least 2 at a time from Motorcycle Superstore so the shipping is free and it's usually here 2 days after I order it.
Since we're on the subject of tires... I mounted a "New" rear Dunlop Elite 3 that I got in my last parts bike deal. The date stamp is 2008 on it. I've got close to 10k miles on it and it still looks fairly new. Still ticks me off they quit making them like that...

They don't make the Elite 3 in a 17" tire to fit these bikes. And since they went from people getting 15-16k miles out of them to 7 or 8k, (All while swearing they've changed nothing on the tire) while raising the price from $109 to $149 (Last I checked) .. most bailed on them. BUT... tires and oil.. Everyone has their preferences.
The Elite 3 is a good tire, but you can have a very good tire for much less $ per mile. Many people have to change tires due to age, not mileage though, so that may not be a determining factor. Right TC? lol..Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

My struggle was finding a decent white-wall tire for my 16" rear wheel. Ended up with a Dunlop D402, branded for Hardleys. Not super impressed with the mileage, but it's been a good tire so far. I do expect about 7k out of it though.1980 XS850SG - Sold

Shinko 777 is available in a white wall in size 130 / 90 - 16. Or in a standard black wall.
I put one of these on my Connie (150 / 80 - 16) and have been very pleased with the wet weather handling and mileage, so far more than 6,500 miles and the tire looks nearly new. I expect in excess of 12K out of this tire.
Had run Dunlop for years but the price is just getting out of hand. The Shinko was just under $88.00 last spring from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse.
Unfortunately the only 17" size is a 150 / 80 - 17 and is probably to wide for an 11.Jerry Fields

That's what my last rear tire was, and I was very disappointed with the mileage I got out of it. It was nice and sticky, but with my highway riding, the center wore out way too fast.1980 XS850SG - Sold
