Long story short, my buddy screwed up my throttle cable. Need to allocate time to replace. The throttle part is easy, but I've never been in the motor compartment. Easy fix? How long for a 1st time to replace?
It take about 15 - 20 min.
You do need to remove the seat and tank.

Okay, low-down, nitty-gritty on removing that cable:
Remove it from the kill-switch housing via phillips (replace them with SS Cap Screws), pull your seat off with a 14mm wrench, then your tank with a 12mm. Be careful not to tear vacuum/gas hoses, and remember to disconnect fuel gauge connector before pulling out the tank, and make sure petcock is not on prime
Push/pull-up on the throttle plate on the carb to put slack in the cable and pull the eye out. Slide the new one into the throttle on the handlebar, route it the same way as the old one, and connect it to the throttle plate, pushing it up all the way as u did removing it.
Re-assemble the bike and bike my friend.

15 to 20 minutes or all afternoon if you take the opportunity to clean up the top of the engine and polish the chrome bits and check the fluid level in the battery etc. DO lube the cable before installation and avoid sharp bends when routing it. If the old one had stretched you will need to make the adjustment. Check that the throttle snaps closed when released...before going for a test ride

The last time I replaced a broken throttle cable, or clutch cable for that matter, I zip tied the end of the old one to the new one and used the old one to pull the new one in and removed no body pieces.
The hard part was hooking up both ends to their respective components..
Works good for replacing broken hood release cables on automobiles too.

Well, unless you have long needle-nose pliers and great dexterity, removing the throttle cable from the carb bank could be a challenge.
