headlight size question

I have a 79 xs11 special. I bought a front fairing that's supposed to fit a 7" headlight....which I though I had. Headlight is not fitting. The hole in fairing is 7".
1. What size headlight comes on xs11 special?
2. How do you measure? From what edge to what edge?

Hey, Rob -

The '79 Special came from the factory with a 7" headlight, and that measurement is the diameter of the headlight.

Just measured the 81SH and 79SF and both are just about 7"

I had a friend tell me the measurement INCLUDES the headlight trim,...which would make it almost 8". I had a feeling he was wrong.
