  • Bouncy tach

I recently noticed that the tach on my 80 SG is starting to bounce around a little.
Other than dirty contacts, is there anything in particular that I should look at to remedy this?
It settles-down to what looks to be the right RPM, but if I give the throttle a little blip, it bounces before settling-down.

    TIA

This is a pretty common problem on the XS's. Used a tip I got a few years ago which helped. You have to pull the tach apart to get to the back of the unit. I then sprayed some electrical contact cleaner onto the shaft for the needle. Try not to overspray or you can get some on the glass face which you can't wipe off. This trick worked for me for several years. Mine is again starting to bounce a little so it looks like I need to give it another squirt again.
