  • I'm new ;)

Hey everybody, my name is Aaron. I'm new to the forum but I've read a lot of posts. Anyhow I just got my dad old xs elevens. $300 for the pair. The thing is they are both in bad repair. The special is pretty beat up and the venturer has a rusted/seized engine thats stuck in gear. Now here's the plan. I'm gonna get working on the special this winter and ill be posting pics and asking a whole lotta questions. I just wanted to let you know I'm here and I figured I would introduce the project.

In fact i should give a little more detail on what "beat up" meant. My mom and da got separated and my littl brothers were pissed at him so they smashed almost all of the electrical stuff and he tach and speedo. They also busted the windshield. It also had 42k on it and the head needs to be rebuilt. Plannin on doin a whole engine rebuild.

Welcome on board, sounds like you will be spending some time looking parts. A lot of parts are available from members on this site and ebay too.

Thank you. Well the venturer is complete and the special has a bunch of new stuff already. So I was thinking i could take parts from the venturer for a while. That's why I am here. To ask you guys what will work.

          Hi Aaron and welcome,
there's some limits but just about any XS11 part will swap between Specials and Standards.
Let us know what you intend and you'll be amazed at the conflicting advice you'll get.
And be sure to make your darlin' little brothers aware of the immediate connection between committing further vandalism and living in a world of hurt.

              FYI dog, an E isn't a Venturer.

                Hi Aaron,
I forgot to mention this; before you spend another hour of your time or a dollar of your money on those bikes make sure to get them registered in your name.
Use this list's search function to read the sad stories of folks pouring time and money into a bike then having to try recouping their losses by parting it out because the DMV wouldn't give them a registration.

I appreciate all of the input guys. For my brothers I'm gonna bill them with what it costs to fix the bike, they are gonna give me minimum wage help (I'm the oldest and they are willing to work it off) as for the venturer not being an E, when I submitted my bikes when I applied for membership thats what I got back from who ever agreed to let me be a member. And finally, I will work on getting the bikes in my name before i part money into them. As i said I appreciate you guys helping already.

By the way, what year did the venturer come out? My bike says that it's a venturer and it says 78 or 79 (I don't have them at my house yet)

Venturer was an '81 Standard, distinguished by it's two-tone blue & white paint scheme on the tank, with Fairing kit.

Well then my mistake. This bike is kinda redish purple with pin stripes. I was pretty sure it was a venturer but it being late seventies i suppose it can't be a venturer.

Ummm...no. I'm trying to say check the VIN to see exactly what you have.

The 78 E came in ONLY Macho Maroon from the factory.
