  • carb slide needle jet spring

    A little help please...
while trying to cure a mid range stumble...I noticed that on 2 of my carbs the small spring on the slide needle (beneath snap ring and weirdball plastic tower thing)the small spring is BELOW the e clip and on the other 2 carbs it is above..which is correct?

I am trying to visualize what you are describing. Are you able to take a picture and post? I know how you hate that though!

BTW, ZRX carbs have the same spacing as the XS11... http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35462

On the 78-79 it goes below the clip and on the 80 it goes above.

        I'm not that smart..lol

Bonz,It's not so much hating it just inept..
as an example it took me 3 hours to post pics of rally. If YOU had not mentioned That there is a ten minute window to post pics. would still be trying..
Back to the matter at hand..
In looking at the slide from the top down you would have plastic tower thing, circlip,(spring?)plastic washer thing (about 3/16ths thick)..E clip (that goes in the needle grooves)thin metal washer (spring?)..I guess another way of putting it is does that small spring lift the needle ?or does it hold the needle down......

          spring sproing sprung

Thanks BA 80 that makes sense as I remember being able to pull the needle down while installing the circlip...versus trying to line all that stuff up and installing circlip...The best part of his is now the mid range stumble will more than likely be gone....I hope

The best way I've found to do those, putting them together and taking them apart, is to set the slide on top of a vise with the needle between the jaws. Pull the needle down to compress that little spring and lightly clamp the needle in the jaws.

For your midrange stumble make sure the pilot jet and it's circuit are clean and clear and be sure there is no crud around the needle jet and inside the well it's in.

Instead of the vice and risking marking up the needle just wrap a rubber band aroun the needle really tight when it's pulled out and it will stay.

I haven't marked one yet Wade. Besides, the top of the vice provides a stable place to get the #&*@*$ snap ring out of there without stabbing yourself with the needle. BTDT.
