  • Cylinder head front a rear Bolt

Okay, I can safely say I'm not having fun any more.

Putting together my 79 xs1100 special and have run in to two problems.

The front and rear small bolts appear not to pull the front and rear of the cylinder head down and I'm getting oil leaking. I really don't want to be pulling on it as I'm worried about snapping the bolt, Like I just did to the top bolt of on the oil delivery pipe. (That's another story) any suggestions

    Hey Tech,

Did you have the head off? If so, did you install the seal for the cam chain passage? I did not install that seal on mine and it leaked bad.

When I had my head off last summer, the dealer told me that there were two types of replacement head gaskets, one that included the space for that gasket for the cam chain passage - OEM style - and one that did not. I put in the one that did not use the cam chain gasket.

I followed the Clymer manual for bolt torque and sequence. I also verified the head was flat. Sorry I don't recall anything particular about those two little bolts. Mine went together fine.

The two bolts you are talking about I believe are the last two in the torque sequence. I think it's 15 lbs. Did you follow sequence when tightening the head?
