  • 79 special tank badges on a 78 standard tank?

    Can it be done? I tried a search but could not find a satisfactory answer.
    Living to EXcess.
    1978 XS1100E Canadian, Cartridge emulators, NOS heavy duty fork springs,
    Showa rear shocks, ACCT, Jardine 4-2 spaghetti pipes.
    1979 XS1100F Canadian, stock exhaust. Top end rebuild in progress.

    Yeah, they'll fit. I have Standard badges on my special. Just be sure and get them on the correct sides and don't over tighten the screws and crack them. Someone told me that............

      I admit that I never tried it. I'm pretty sure they're not going to work. The Special badges have a pretty steep curve on the leading side. I would expect them to crack before they are secure.


      For the Specials, the left and right side badges have different part numbers. You can see the steep curve in the photo.

        These standard badges fit my special fine. I really don't think the difference is that great. I put those flat chrome golf cart badges on the hornet, just used the heat gun on the back of them and bent them a little and held them there until they cooled. Fit like factory.

          Greg,
          Looking at the Special badges, I think they'll break if you try to affix them to a standard tank. I don't think that would be the case going the other way as the steep curve is after the screw holes. I'd try it with a damaged badge before I risked a nice one.
