  • 79F Pilot Box

When I attended XS East this year I brought (I thought) all of my spare parts to give away. Way back when I refurbished the pilot box on my XS until could find an NOS one, which I installed and of course now Ben owns.

Lo and behold what I discovered in a little box tucked away...the refurbished pilot box...not too shabby for a restoration of a part that is for all intents unobtainium.

Now I'm sure there are plenty of shabby looking ones out there and this one would brighten up the dash for someone who needs it. So, in my continuing effort to pay back the guys and gals who helped me in the past, here for free is my old pilot box. First PM gets it.

Please do not re-sell this on ebay or you will be forever cursed. i will be watching.

Oh, and before anyone asks, this IS my last XS spare part.

BTW here's how i did it...

Drew the pattern in AutoCAD, reverse printed on a transparency,

Cut it out and painted over the backs of the lettering,

        Glued it on, VIOLA!

That was in 2004 and it still looks pretty damned good.

Now if I can get the file converted to .pdf or .doc, i'll post a link so everyone can get it and play with it. Yes, I did a Special one too.

An elegant restoration/fix for the pilot box lettering. I hope you find a way to post the cad file. This is the biggest eyesore on both my standards. Your fix looks like the answer short of an NOS part.
