Advice needed - Need Solenoid for XS 1100

Hi there,

Need some advice on which type of solenoid i will need. Any recommendations on one over another?

Basically, my bike won't turn over unless i tap the solenoid to the frame of the bike. I've tested the ground, starter button, etc...and all is working.

I have a 1981 Yamaha XS1100 Special.

Any advice or info is much appreciated.

If tapping the solenoid against the frame makes it work there might be a broken coil wire or solder connection right at the cover of the start solenoid or it's just partially rusted in place. It's not too difficult to clean and fix the solenoid, I had to repair the one on my '80G and it should be the same as the one on your '81SH.

I don't think the type of solenoid I have can be taken apart...I'll try. It's a different style then the one you have in the picture.
