My son just called me from the house where I store the XS. He said there is a slight gas leak, not sure from where. He wants to know the off position of both petcocks. Can someone help so I can call him?

If your '79 is a Standard, the petcocks are vacuum actuated and there is no off position. If is a Special, the off position is with the lever forward, assuming it has not been taken apart and reassembled incorrectly.Ken Talbot -
