  • Source for Carb Holders/Boots?

    Hello all,
I have recenly acquired a 1981 XS1100 SH and it needs new Carb holders.

Do any of you have a good source for these. I see them on EBAY and they can vary quirte a bit in price.

Just wondering if there are any vendors to avoid or any to consider more closely.

    Happy Biking!
    Thanks,
    Slimbob

Ebay is the least expensive place I've found. There's a seller on there that has them for about $65. That's a pretty good price.

I bought a set off e-bay for around $65-70 last year. They were for my XS project, so they have not been on a running engine yet. I will probably fit them on my XJ instead next time I pull the carbs rather than just letting them collect dust.

I'm very happy with them and don't have any doubts that they will hold up well.

Low price doesn''t necessarily mean good quality. I want a good product and would pay more if someone has experience with a seller that is good, and would avoid a bad seller, I would like to have that knowledge if possible.

That's all I'm asking is if anyone has experience and would either recommend a seller or manufacturer or avoid a seller/manufacturer based on their experience.

I think the Carb holders are all I need to see if the bike will run and decide whether I should spend more time on it this summer or ride my XS650 til winter and work on the XS11 then.

Anxious but not overly anxious to see if the XS11 will run half way decent with the carbs cleaned and new holders and gas lines. The tank looks cherry inside.

I have a friend that used to ride his XS650 Special with me but he now has a HD and wants to ride hiway and/or distance. Neither of which my XS 650 was made for. The XS11, now that's another story, I think/hope.

        Thank you,

YAMAHA XS1100 SPECIAL XJ1100 INTAKE CARB HOLDERS
I prefer not to mess with eBay if I don't have to. I've traded with Sirius Con and my experience was good.

I got my carb holders at Parts N More for $110. They've been on my bike fore a few years with no trouble, even after removing the carburetors 40 times.

Yes, the XS1100 has longer legs than the XS650, except for fuel range. My XS650 is still here because it is far less cumbersome and fun to ride. The two bikes are apples and oranges.

I don't know of anyone who has purchased any of the reproduction carb holders that has buyers remorse. It's up to you to determine whether paying more means you're getting better quality.

This is what I bought from this seller (seller m.j.zee):

            http://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-1979-Ya...-/360959198967

Georgefix has carb boots on e-bay as well and other people have ordered many other things from that seller.

On e-bay, just do your research. If I'm looking for an item that the seller sells frequently, I load their comments and search for positive or negative comments specific to the item I'm looking at buying.
I go to the seller's comment page, show all feedback, set the number of items to the maximum 200 per page, then Ctrl+F in the browser and search for the item. If I find anything other than positive comments, I just need to weigh the negatives to determine if it's something I can live with for saving some cash. If there's nothing but positive, then great.

And here is Sirius Consolidated on eBay:

The price is $20 more than on their site. George Fix has a site, too. www.georgefixs.com I use it often.

A lot of these folks are already maintaining a web site. eBay gets their cut as well. I make the assumption, correctly or not, that the eBay price may be higher than dealing directly with the vendor.

Just watch out for shipping. For example, georgefix is about $7 more expensive after shipping from their website versus free shipping from ebay.

Just bought a set off georgefix on ebay $72.50 free expedited shipping.

Maybe I'll know if the old girl is gonna run in a week or two.

PO jimmied the ignition cause he didn't have a key. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Will have to rebuild the carbs while waiting for the holders to get here.

                            Thanks guys,
I'll try to keep you posted,

Is there anyway to repair the cracks that are not leaking ?
I'm thinking some rubber cement that would flow into the cracks and then spray them with some of the black gutter/hole sealer for an even finish ?
