  • Shock Mounted Brake Light Wiring???

Hey, everyone. I've got a bit of a conundrum, which probably has a very simple solution, but I'm electrically challenged, and can use some guidance.

I bought a shock mounted license plate/tail light combo, but the challenge I have is with wiring it. The stock light goes to a connector with 2 yellow wires, 2 blue, and 2 black, for a total of 6 wires, which supply 2 separate bulbs. My new light has just 2 wires. One green, one black. I put the black wire in one of the black connector spots, but the thing won't work right, no matter what I do with the green wire. If I put it in the blue, I get a tail light, but no brake light, if I put it in the yellow, I get a brake, but no tail, and if I split the 2, I thought I'd get both, but nope, just tail with no brake again.

How do I get both tail light and brake light function with just these 2 wires?

So your plate frame is just a tail light and a plate light correct? No brake light?

It's got a dual filament bulb in it, so it's supposed to do both, but I can only get one or the other.

If it has both and there are only 2 wires then the two wire are for the the brake light and the tail light. It then has to be frame mounted for a ground, or a separate ground wire run to it.

Yes indeed, the body of the light needs to be grounded
