  • hard front end suspension

    What can i do to soften the ride ,,small bumps a so very hard,, like no suspension ! any ideas and thanks ,, Mo

    Convert to an xj front fork, adjustable stiffness and pressure!
    Have:
    1994 FZR600
    1982 XJ1100

    Had:
    1996 YZF600R
    2001 Honda xr125
    Suzuki race 80
    Honda PW 50
    Etc.

    Getting:
    1977 DT400

      Hey Mo,

      Let some of the air out of the front tire! But really, when was the last time you drained and cleaned the front forks?? The metering rods have fairly small holes, and can get gunked up preventing the fork oil from being able to flow thru it. Also, what weight of fork oil are you running? IF you're running 15 weight, then you can try dropping down to 10 weight.

      I didn't check to see what year your bike was so not sure if you have air assisted forks, if so, may also need to reduce pressure there.

        Yep. If stock, it needs cleaning and fresh 10 wt fork oil.

          my bike is an 1980 special and as far as i know forks have never had any kind of maintenance done and like i said small bumps are hard hits ! will see about the oil and the air pressure Thank,s to all ,,Mo

            Another one to check that's easy to do.... check fork alignment, as in; where the fork clamps to the front wheel spindle, slacken off the bottom clamps and push down on the forks with the wheel against a wall.

            Then change the fork oil
