  • mac 4-1 exhaust

Well, I'm about to open a can of worms by asking this, but here it goes...what are some thoughts on the Mac 4 into 1 exhaust system. I found one available in black which is nice for the Midnight Special I have, but don't want to buy it just because it's available. I have Mac turnouts right now that were blasted and painted, now rusting some especially from welds on headers. Or are there coating specialists for ceramic coating the ones I have? I appreciate any advise anyone can give as you know how pricy exhaust is for these bikes...

I have a Mac 4-1 and the sound was too tinny for me so I sawed off the can and installed a Supertrapp can. The chrome started rusting off after 2 years so the headers are painted black now. YMMV

The better solution to painting exhaust is to have them ceramic coated. This finish will last a very long time and is most durable. Check around locally. Some powder coating shops also do the ceramic coating. There are various colors including black.

I had one on my SF and like Phil said it's kind of tinny sounding. I took out the rivet that held the baffle in and pulled out the baffle. Wrapped a piece of exhaust wrap around the outlet pipe so that when the exhaust came into the baffle it shot right into that. It took the tinny sound away OK and sounded pretty good. However, at a certain RPM id mad a kind of whiney sound like the transmission.

Basically the baffle leaves something to be desired and needs to be reworked.

If I woke up and found myself in your shoes, here is what I would seek to do. Have your Mac 4 into 2 headers ceramic coated and you're done with them. Slip automotive Supertrapp mufflers on them like Mashermoto did. Here's his bike:

They make a Kerker baffle that is suspose to fit in the MAC can.

thanks to all of you for your input-I guess I'll stick with coating my own system since it doesn't sound any better than what I have. The turnouts are a little loud, but sound good on acceleration. Thanks again!
