I'm servicing the front wheel on my 80 midnight special and wondering the best way to get the wheel bearings out to service or replace them. The manual says to tap them out by the outer race but I'm thinking it must be shouldered in the hub. Do they all go out one side or how are they properly removed? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

There is a spacer between the 2 bearings that makes it a swearfest getting the first one out. There are some thin metal washer type pieces on that spacer. If you just pry one end over hard enough that centering thing will bend enough to get a punch on the inside of the bearing and knock it out.
That PITA centering thing can be straightened when you go back together with everything. I have one wheel without those things and the really aren't necessary, it just makes it easier to get the axle started back through there.Greg
