What's more interesting is that the Progressive springs that folks can get are only made in the Standard Size. What I've read has stated that to put them into Special forks, you have to use a 4" spacer.
It's of no consequence. Make the spacer 8", 10", or whatever it takes to fill the gap and get proper preload.

I had a couple friends who owned these bikes years ago and swore that the only way they would run decent is with a little carb cleaner in ever tank of fuel.
I run the ethanol treatment and marvel mystery oil in every tank myself, 1 oz of each at fill.

Dang no kidding, that would make sense because I'll often open up the cap and check the fuel level to make sure I'm not crazy before it starts running right again.. Where are these vent hole's located? I'm starting to think that mine is more of an ignition problem actually. When it happens it's usually at lower rpm and it will spit and sputter until about 3k or so and then the rpm's will fly up, but that could also have to do with finally sucking fuel in. I checked my petcocks and they flow just fine, but it always seems like the right 2 cylinders will die out and I'll be running just on the left 2 intermittently, which is funny that you say your right side filter would go dry. Interesting! I will have to try that on mine. May also have to do with the drastic temp changes I've been having here in Chicago, if the tank is all sealed up it's going to put a decent vacuum in it once it cools down in temps.

Aah is it build into the cap? I see there's a little hole in there. I'll have to take it apart later and see if I see anything. Thanks for all the input guys

              plugged vent

You're going to have to disassemble the fuel cap. You will find a very small filter in the vent. It is rotten and will plug the vent. I replaced mine with a small piece of Scotch Brite. This can become an issue when the seal gets replaced. No vent is required with a weathered and cracked seal in place.

Yep. Sucker was clogged for sure. Took it apart and broke some pieces.. guess I'll have to source some new cap seals now hahaha

It all makes sense now, too, that on the few super hot day's we've had when I turned my fuel on it started leaking out of the airbox, the tank must have gotten pressurized in the heat as well as sucking itself into a vacuum giving me fuel starvation, interesting that just like Dylano it was my two right cylinders starving of fuel, as he said his filter for that side was running dry when the bike would act up.

I do love when it's an easy fix!! Waiting on some parts this week, hopefully be back on the road this weekend.

                  Hak,
Mike's XS has the correct seal for $8.50. I personally have had poor luck with the durability of their rubber parts, but it's an option.

The OEM seal is still available, and for more than twice the money will last 25 years or so. 2M0-24641-00-00 GASKET,CAP 1

Awesome, thanks Marty! I just ordered from Mike's so I'd hate to double up shipping, I managed to get my old cracking one back on but I think I'll order an OEM one before this one disintegrates, thanks for posting the part number for me!

                      Hak,
Click on "OEM seal". It's going to be tough to find a better price.
