Ordered a master cyl kit for my 79 xs1100sf. I got a k&l 32-1085. Looks identical to the parts I need but everything seems to be for a slightly larger bore than what I have. The new push rod is too big for the bore. Everywhere I look this is the number listed for my bike. I'm not the original owner of the bike so idk if the master is the correct one. When I Google it, It looks correct. Only markings on the master housing is "nissin 4" which helps me none. Do I have an incorrect master for this bike or incorrect kit??? Please help before I waste anymore money!!

Both the 1979's I own have Nissan 11/16 in raised letters on the bottom, haven't seen one with just a 4 yet.
Now this was the front master, are you talking about the rear?1979 XS1100 w/Factory Fairing <Need left cover>

I looked up K&L 32-185. The description is XS850 and XS1100.
I have two SG's, but I can't read the markings on them where they're parked right now. All I can see near the reservoir is 1/2 in a circle. I can't see Nissin, even with a mirror.

The 1/2 and the 11/16 is likely the bore of the cylinder, or one could easily assume so...
So he was talking about the rear and you got that by looking up the kit number he mentioned, assuming again...1979 XS1100 w/Factory Fairing <Need left cover>

I looked up the kit. K&L 32-1085 It shows up as a rear master cyl kit for XS850 and XS1100. My two XS1100SG's have 1/2 embossed on them like my first photo. Beyond this, I have no knowledge of what these bikes came equipped with for rear brake master cylinders. The parts fiche shows only one part number for the XS1100SF master cylinder assembly. 2H7-25850-51-00 shows effective for all XS1100's except for the LH.Last edited by jetmechmarty; 06-04-2014, 09:13 PM.Marty (in Mississippi)

The LH and LG were different but all the others, front and rear, are the same for the XS1100.Greg

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I remember reading somebody's post stating that Yamaha used two different rear masters with two different bores on a certain Special model. And, if this is the case, you just might be one of the unlucky ones that has the odd-bored rear master cylinder.1979 XS1100F

It appears you either need a kit for a 14mm master, or acquire a 1/2" master cyl. The 1/2 unit will take slightly less effort and have more gradual application if you go that route.
To acquire a kit for your master cylinder, I suggest you call Michael "Mercury" Morse at Vintage Brake.Marty (in Mississippi)

Actually its the front master I'm attempting to rebuild. The listing for this was for a front master. But its not right. If this is for a rear master that could be my issue and the guy on eBay listed it wrong. Theres no other numbers I can see besides a 1 in a circle and nissin 4. I'll get a pic of it tomorrow79 XS eleven special

You must have gotten one for a MNS because they all the same except the MNS. Unless, someone put an midnight MC on your SF.

According to the Vin it's an sf. The bike came from a family friend who had the bike since new and said he doesn't ever remember replacing it. So its possible bit not likely the wrong one. But if this kit is for a rear then that makes sense it looks identical to the parts I removed only for a slightly larger bore than what I have.79 XS eleven special

If it's the correct kit for an SF it should be 11/16 or 17mm.Greg
