And yet others have drilled and used a grinder. Why is that? It can't just be lack of expertise in using the tool, surely, when knee looks at how much grinding or drilling is necessary....

I just use a screwdriver and put it on the bucket lip and push it down. It was very quick and easy. It is a trick to get it to push down without spinning and is pretty stiff to push down but still and easy task all in all.

Oh, in my case, it can be exactly that. I'm a rider, not a mechanic. I've accomplished the myriad of maintenance projects over the past 8 years on my bike largely due to the input of members contributing to this site.

A lot of the projects are things I'm attempting for the first time. Such as the shim swap. I enjoyed it very much. When the MP tool didn't work for me, it was cool to find a fix for that here. I enjoyed drilling and grinding it, customizing the tool for the job at hand, with success.

With so many smart experienced contributors here, we sometimes have options on how to do things. I respect all of the input, and it's up to me to choose what might work best in my own situation.

James I have 3 of them (inherited mostly) and 2 are the motion type. Non of tem have given me any grief. I do not even look to see which one I am grabbing anymore. Possibly differing manufacture people or what have you but mine have all been good.

I do know on the GS site, a good majority have ground their MP shim tool. I must have got lucky. No issues.
