Yup............some way tighter tolerances goin' on. Defer from that, and you'll soon be hearing some gaulded, noisey hd. lifters, or other tight toleranced parts that won't be happy.

Thought I'd share my experience with a high grade 20-50w motorcycle syn oil. Started having a serious clutch slip, plug fouling and engine leaks. went back to regular old 20-50 dino and after 4 oil changes the clutch slip has finally stopped along with most of the oil leaks and the plugs look normal again.
I found it's well worth it to not skimp on the motor oil!

We've had this discussion before. The question is WHY bother with Synth? If you do the recommended oil changes at 3k miles, it gets real expensive real fast. Our old engines don't have a tight of clearances as modern engines, and so there's lots of contamination that occurs from the combustion chamber, so even though Synth is supposed to last longer, not break down as quickly, because it gets "dirty", it needs to be changed every 3k miles or sooner anyways. The Synth was supposed to last longer and allow longer time intervals between changes which works for new car engines, but not for our old engines. Now in the middle and final drives...that's a different story.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again anyway. I've run a bunch of synthetic motorcycle oil in my XS1100. I had zero clutch slip. It works just as well as everything else from the seat of my pants, not having done analysis as Bonz has done. I was happy. TC's point is most important. The best oil for these motorcycles is clean and slippery. That being said, when the price of a quart of oil is $10 and up, the change interval has a tendency to get stretched. Stretched too long, and....
