    The high point on the lobe should be opposite of the center of the lifter.
    Which is to say that a line drawn through the tip of the lobe and the centerline of the cam shaft should intersect the center of the lifter shim.

      That is what I would expect but was thrown off since top dead wasn't that way.

        Hey Miesta,

        TDC is marked on the timing plate ONLY for the #1 cylinder. So...your measurements for the #1 valves are probably correct, but you just need to eyeball the cam lobe position for the other 3 cylinders so that you're measuring the widest gap possible. If you were to pull the spark plugs, and then use a rod to monitor the piston movements, you could then determine the TDC for the other 3 cylinders. But I don't know if the TDC position is the optimum position for the valves/cams to be at their fullest closed position and widest clearance gap?

          First off, wow is that valve tool the best thing ever. When compared to removing the cams this was 1000x easier and so fast. I had no trouble at all.

          I measured, remeasured then did it once more to ensure I got the right readings.
          I have the intake all figured out but have a question on the exhaust side.

          All 4 measure .008...this is in tolerance but on the low side. Should I pull the shims and adjust them all up a size while I'm in there or just leave them?

            Can you almost fit a 0.009" feeler gauge or are they a 'tight' 0.008"?

                    I just used a screwdriver on my xs750, it was easy don't know if its exactly the same as the 1100 though.
