    Hey XSives....

As many people know, I live in England. England is now dominated and completely under the tyranny of a political entity known as the European Union which we were gulled into joining in the 1970's as a 'common market' for trade only. Now, Britain, which fought with our US cousins to liberate Europe from the domination of the Axis forces at great human cost, is now ruled by Brussels, with Germany in the background calling the shots. The 'common market' became a political and economic union which has superseded our own Parliament. They are the people who brought us the straight banana, nonsensical regulations making us 'conform' to such things as domestic wiring, agricultural policy, what we sell, grow and how we do it, measure it, drive it, pay taxes on it etc....... With me so far?

Well, the European Union last year banned PJ1 Satin Black Case Paint because it's supposedly hazardous to everything and almost a WMD. It was off the market for about 8 months and was finally rereleased with major changes to the formula in order to become a 'straight banana' for Brussels. However, it is nowhere near as good as it was before the ban and subsequent modification to the formula. Today, I received a call from the President of the company, Mr PJ Harvey who called in response to my email about the product. He assured me that the PJ1 sold in the USA is the original, tried and trusted formula.

So, I'm wondering if someone in the USA would be able to look into buying on my behalf a case of this product and shipping it to me by surface mail (since aerosols can't be sent by air?? is this true?). Any volunteers? It comes in cases of a dozen cans, I believe. I've tried buying direct from US sellers but they won't ship here because of the air freight restriction on aerosols.......

I'm hoping that someone in the 'land of the free' (and, presumably bent bananas and ability to weigh them in lbs and oz without being fined) could maybe help me out??

James, it may be a crapshoot as to whether or not if you have some shipped to you that it will clear our postal regs or your customs. It's actually illegal to use the USPS to ship anything in a aerosol to Britain

And don't feel too bad; our EPA (and even individual states) have forced reformulations on many products here also... rarely for the better...

Might be time to look into a powdercoating set-up....

yes, I did wonder re aerosols in planes....... PJ1 in the hold!

Yes, powder coating for smaller bits would be a possibility. It can be done in a domestic oven and I seem to recall an XSive posting about it here several years ago...... Bit tricky for a full engine though..... The new formula PJ1 is kind of OK, I suppose, but not as easy to apply and it needs baking at 200-250 degrees C to get it smooth.

It was interesting talking to PJ Harvey today. I always wonder where the name of the product came from. He told me that he deliberately left the design of the can unchanged for 35 years...quite a rarity these days when packaging changes so regularly. He sounded I like an old school gentleman, very polite and articulate and sympathetic about the castrating of the product....

Re postal regs...I'd be going on the hope that Customs at each end will not be so aware of the forbidden nature of the product...I mean they can't know everything.... Or check everything.....

                      James,

I seem to be too lame to figure out how to do surface mail. The aerosol is on the same list with pornography, even though porn is not a flight risk.

                        James,
ALL International mail goes by air. The lower rate just sits on the shelf longer before it gets on the plane

Need to find the schedule for the next straight-banana boat heading to the U.K., ship the case of paint with them and hope it gets offloaded whilst the inspectors are busy measuring their bananas.

yes. I bet even if they undid the package and looked at the stud, they wouldn't have a clue it's banned. It has no chemicals marked on it or contents....

I'm in California so I doubt anything here would help. It's probably a weaker formula than the ebil E.U. allows; be lucky if it contains pigment and sticks to itself when wet, much less bare metal or properly prepped paint.
