  • Kickstart lever clip

I recently bought a kickstart lever, having not realised that my latest project actually already had one....I'd removed it and squirrelled it away..then forgot I did that (age??). Both of the kickstart levers have a removable S-shaped clip on them. Could someone please tell me what it's for??

XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Micron fork brace. Progressive front springs. Geezer regulator/rectifier. Stainless 4 into 2 exhaust. Auto CCT (Venturer 1300) SOLD. New project now on the go. 1980 European model.

I also have two of them but no s shaped clips on mine, so no help from me.

Bigger end goes round the footrest, smaller end goes round the frame with the footrest up, the clip holds it up for kickstart swing clearance.

I've made replacements out of wire coat hangers, I think someone posted the dimensions on XS1100UK forum for folk to make they're own if theirs was missing.

      EDIT

Its just occurred to me why US bikes don't have them, your footrests are much further forward which won't interfere with the kickstart swing, Euro XS1100's have rearset footrests which are in the way but held up with the S clip work Ok.

Aha! Of course! I puzzled over it for ages and failed the test. Yes, for the Euro ones, it makes perfect sense.....

        Thanks!

          Wyre

I do not have that wyre piece. I found a kick starter at the junk yard, put it on Yami and jumped on it. Yami fired after second kick. Did not notice that the foot peg might be in the way. Will study operation again, and maybe build a wyre S piece.
