    I am thinking about setting my bike up with a linked brake system. I know the typical linked system is that the rear and front left are controlled by the rear brake pedal and the front brake lever controls the right front brake. I want mine to have the rear brake lever controll all brakes. Would I need a preportioning valve if so what percentages ( front vs. back) would work safest.

    fluid movement

    The first thing you, d have to check is the size of your master cylinder, 1/2" or 5/8", to move that amount of fluid over the distance,

    Off the top of my head, first thought would be have a look at the specs on a can am 3 wheeler to see how they do it,

    Or it maybe as simple as a 5/8 master cylinder with s/s brake lines to the front

      Aren't the brakes on the 81 LG linked?
      How does that work?
      Knowing what mods you've already done on your bike, then all you got to do is get a rear master and the plumbing from the rear to the front and that should bolt up to your 81H system just fine.

        Okay John, just looked in the manual and the LH's brakes are linked rear to front right with the proportioning valve mounted down near the rear master.

        Okay, so maybe see if you can get a different proportioning valve and then hook it up both fronts to the rear. You may have to get a bit bigger rear master too, though the rear master for the LH and XJ are a different part numbers, so maybe they are bigger than the 'stock' ones shared with all the other XS11's.
        Also the those 2 bikes also share the same proportioning valve too.

        Just some thoughts cause I know you may be on a budget.

          You could use the linked system off of an early Yamaha Venture Royal. They are linked rear pedal to the rear caliper and 1 front caliper.

            You're trying to eliminate the front master off the handlebars....

            I don't see any way to do this cheaply without ending up with an unsafe system. If you could adapt some sort of ABS to the bike it would be workable, but packaging the needed electronics/mechanicals on a bobber would be tough, not to mention the probable expense.

            But without some sort of 'active' control, any type of straight mechanical biasing won't give the flexibility needed for the varying braking conditions you could encounter... which is why this is rarely (ever?) done on production bikes...

              Remote master cylinder

              Done a lot more research and I think I might be able to do a remote cable operated master cylinder. I know there is a BMW that uses that system and the master cylinder is under the tank
