  • Carb Plugs?

I am working on cleaning a set of 80 carbs and thanks to Steve's great write up on carbs it explained exactly what the hard as rock plugs were covering the pilot jets? One was in the bottom of the bowl I was not sure what it even was. Does anyone know where I can get the plugs? As Steve indicated they are not in the rebuild kits

    Thanks
    Gordon

Bone stock 1980 Special except for the exhaust and crashbars. Oh yeah, and the scabbard for the Winchester Defender.

Make sure you have right carb bowls, if i remember correctly, there should be a nipple above the plug...i guess to hold it in place. ...

Also make sure your carbs need those plugs. By '81 the carbs shouldnt need that plug, it was really only the transition carbs in early '80 that used those plugs.

My XS1100SG was built in August of 1979. My carburetors do not use the pilot plugs as there is no crossover path. Make sure you need them.

              Hi Marty,
not my SG neither BUT my 1984 XS650 Heritage Special does have the rubber plugs, the nubbins in the float bowls and the drilled feed passages from the main jets.
I swear each design group at Yamaha must have had access to the same parts warehouse but were forbidden to talk to each other.
Mind you, if someone bought a set of rubber plugs they didn't need they are not totally wasted.
They also fit the hole where the slow running needle is, to seal it after you have pried out the EPA's anti-adjusting plug.
Having 4 spares in the XS11 came in handy when a plug from my son's XS650 did a disappearing act.

Funny, my '83 XS650 uses the plugs as well.
