That carb boot is how it looked when I took it off the bike. Only half the gasket. I overlooked that somehow. Dunno how long that problem lasted before I took the carbs apart for rejetting.

I can see the image, maybe I was too far away?

Take all those worthless paper gaskets off and just use some Yamabond or Threebond gasket maker in there. Those paper gaskets will fail every time.

That was the only one that didnt have newer gasket maker in there. Can't believe that was missed. Could the air leaking im through that cause all my issues with the revs?

It most definitely would. It may not be the whole problem, but a big part of it.

If you didn't live 380 miles away in the panhandle desert I would come give you a hand.

Well if you ever get a chance to come to our little dust bowl you can have a beer on me. I doubt you'd want your pristine baby to be seen next to my monstrosity.

                Haha.

This is one of the best done bobbers I've seen. It belonged to a good friend and member here, Montreux_Blue. This bike was fast and Jeremy rode it like it was on a rail. Unfortunately he was killed in Arlington, Tx. a couple, three years ago in a bike accident on his Suzuki.

That's damned beautiful. Hate to hear about any death on a bike. But I bet he had fun while he could!

Well I made a new gasket but somehow it is still way lean. Fuel level in floats is higher than gasket so Im going to adjust that tonight. Ive made a YouTube video that shows the surging revs and the effect that enriching has on the bike. Here you go.

It may be your butterfly shaft seals sucking air. Spray wd40 or starting fluid around and see if it makes a difference.

Firstly, back the idle screw all the way down

When you have the idle screw all the way down, if it still revs, you must attack the high idle one thing at a time. You already found one problem ( intake air or as it is called ( unmetered air ) through the carb holder gasket. Have you checked all four ? Be sure the throttle cable is not hung up and the throttle butterflys are closed. As previously stated, no air no gas, no go. The air has to get to the cylinder some way and even throwing fuel at the bike by high fuel levels in the bowls will not make it rev high without more air. Plug off all the carb nipples and run the bike on prime (just for testing ). I can,t be there, but I can walk you through to the fix.

In one of the replies by BA80 why doesn't your bike idle cold? My 1980 SG will start anytime with the choke and when the bike warms up the choke gets shut off. When the bike is warm then I don't need the choke but if it doesn't idle cold you need to clean the carbs-plain and simple. The rpms should not get even close to that high and leaving the choke on will foul the plugs.

Are you asking me a question?

I don't like using the choke/enricher if I don't need to, it kills plugs. My bike will start right up without but won't idle until it gets warm so I use the throttle lock to keep the RPMs up for a while.

I just don't see how it kills plugs?
