  • high speed wobble..

Tire is new so rolling that out. Seem like 55mph and over I notice a wobble. Any thoughts what it Is? Thanks.

Where to begin? You haven't told us much about the bike, what you've already done to it frame/suspension wise, aside from the new front tire.

Okay, a surprising problem is the steering head bearings, the grease can age/harden, as well as notches in the bearing races, both can cause the steering to hang and so it can feel like it wants to wander....hunt for equalibrium.

Next, both front and rear wheel bearings. Next, swing arm bearings. Worn OLD rear shocks, or old dirty front shock damper parts, oil, or even lack thereof!

Could be a lot of things in the suspension causing it. Forks that need rebuilt, rear shocks worn out, bad wheel bearings..............I had an issue with that and what helped the most was servicing and adjusting the swingarm bearings.

On the same note, if you've never overhauled your front forks do it. It'll feel like a new bike. That Venturer has air forks. Is the air pressure the same in both sides?

Steering head bearings binding or rough can make a bike feel scary. Have you serviced them?

      A lot a variables here.

Did you get your exhaust fixed? ( unrelated question)

Lots of things but most likely is that your forks are unbalance - aka the fork oil is at different heights causing an unbalanced damping ratio between your forks. From a physics standpoint, uneven dampening ratios in a coupled system (your forks) can and most often leads to unbounded, unstable oscillations (tank slappers, aka handlebar wobble).

If you continue to ride don't let go of the handlebars as your arms are providing the necessary retarding force needed to compensate for the torque generated by the difference in fork damping and it will rapidly start "wobbling" out of control.

Is there any possibility the tire is bad or balanced improperly?

New tire? Is it balanced properly? I had a tire on the front of mine that gave me a mild shimmy at around 40, gone by 45 and around 80, again gone by 85. Once I replaced the front tire, shimmy was gone. Granted, it was a cheap **** Chinese tire, but it wS definitely my tire. So I wouldn't rule out the tire just yet. Have the balance checked just to be sure. Just a thought. Have a nice day and ride safe

The high speed wobble is an XS trait. It's a weigh distribution issue.

Next time it happens Ken just lean forward and it will stop.

It can be adjusted out with some minor suspension mods. I haven't had that issue since I rebuilt my forks and switched to XJ rear shocks.

Not saying this will work for everyone but it worked for me.

The wobble doesn't show up until your approaching 100MPH in most cases.

Thanks guys .. gives me a few things to check. The rear tire was balanced last summer when it eau put on. The wobble isn't bad but is noticeable to me. Greg I did finish the. Pipes ànd posted a pic in the other section.
Thanks again for the suggestions everyone.

Check the tire pressure run it at near max pressure. Put the bike up on center stand and rotate the tire look at the tire near the rim. There is usually a bead there that should be the same distance from the rim edge on both sides. Watch the outermost part of the tire it should rotate and not go high then low. Next go arround back and place a thin point like a pencil on the floor or ground and spin the wheel while watching the tread. The tread should track straight and not wobble back and forth. If any of these things are observed the tire may have been mounted wrong somehow streached or just made wrong and can cause wobble. Older tires can just do this as they decay I have had it happen to me. Also check all the things before mentioned as they all cause the same problems. Never rule out a tire but seldom will 2 tires have the problem at the same speed.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.
