Just bought these bad boys. Two 78s. Special is immaculate. Needs some work to run right but very nice.

Standard needs some love but runs.

Good buy, but neither one is a '78... . Both are '79s, a first-year Special and a second-year standard. That Special is very nice...
Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

    '79F parts...
    '81H more parts...

The color/graphics. The '78s standards (and only model available) only came in one color (Macho Maroon), the '79s came in two; Indigo Blue and Magenta Red, you have the blue. There isn't much mechanical difference between the years, the main one being different ignition advance units, and the early 79s still had the '78 'tube' wheels. Yours looks to be a late '79 with tubeless wheels, another plus.

        A sure check is the serial number on the motor; if it starts with 2H700, it's a '78. If it's 2H702, that's a '79.

I posted these originally here. I think it was a good deal for two. "You did good". Nice bikes.

I know this is a broad question but my wife won't let me keep both....so I was wondering what people thought the special may be worth in running condition that matched the aesthetics?

I'm keeping the standard bc I already have a seat, tank, lights, and carbs for it.

                Yeah....

If I didnt already have a standard I'm converting to a chain drive drag bike, a R5, a cb350, and a cb900 then maybe I would fight her on it a bit

Yes I am! One thing for sure, if my wife objects to what I'm doing, I will not come on this forum and say, "My wife won't let me!" even if it's true.

                          My wife told me to!

What's that old joke that goes like this?
A guy dies and goes to heaven and there is a line that has thousands of men in that says"For men whose wives told them what to do
Another lines says "for men that did what They wanted to
only one man is in this line
St Peter ask this man why he is in this line,
The guy says "because my wife told me to

Truthfully, you should never stop listening or caring. When one of you does, it's over. Just don't tell us about your short leash, or we're going to be on that like flies on a manure wagon!

My photo was taken last weekend at Deals Gap. Do you think my wife goes there to meet her girlfriends? Yes, it works the other way, too.
