  • Tire pressure update

    WOW...what a difference!!
I posted the other day about the recommended tire pressures:
    Clymer vs. Dunlop
I am running new Dunlop 491 elite II's and was running them at the clymer recommended 40psi.
It was ok..but..it liked to wander a bit.
For the hell of it I dropped pressures down closer to what Dunlop recomended (30frt-32rear) actually I went to 32 and 34.
It is like driving a whole different bike. I can't believe it!
As of yet I havent tried any hard corners and such..but it feels sooo much more stable than it did.
Now I am wondering if I should go lower yet...(scary)
I wonder if I am gonna lose the 38-40mpg I was getting?
    Rock On!

I wouldn't go any lower. The bike tires made today have a shollower ply on the bias than the original tires and usually run best at the presure indicated on the side of the tire.

Received my new K491 Elite II for the rear. Looks like Dunlop re-engineerred the tire; tread pattern is different and it appears to weigh a little less than the old one did when it was new. I suspect the tire pressure recommendations changed for the new design.

Front tire also looks redone, different tread pattern as well. I'm not a tire expert, but both now feature a new continious rib design that looks like it may give higher mileage. Will see how they look by the end of the year!

        Pressures

Dunlop recommends 40psi rear and 36 psi front. I get the best handling and tire life at these tire pressures. If I ride 2 up I increase the rear to 42 psi
