so....i have a bit of a gremlin. my headlight and gauge lights go dark. no reason. doesn't seem to be connected to anything except the flasher pot thing under the seat gets really hot.

    the problem is two-fold....
    1. my headlight goes out without warning
    2. i get pulled over and my bike gets impounded.

    i don't like either.

anyone know what i should look for/where to start?
or anyone know where i can buy a complete new wiring harness? im guess once i fix this, something else is gonna break.

    Hey there,

Well, a photo of the suspect "Flasher Pot thingy" would be helpful.

Secondly, the headlight is controlled by a RELAY, and it's a latching one which means once it senses charging power from the alternator, it locks in the ON position and stays that way until you turn the key off.

However, you are also saying that you are loosing your gauge lights. So...this leads me to ask if you still have the OEM glass fuse box/block? If so, that's the first place you would need to look and fix by replacing it with a solid ATCO style fuse holder. See the For Sale Forum, parts section, then sticky thread parts/services by members, post #10 for info on acquiring a replacement fuse block.

sorry... i'll work on a picture. after a quick google image of flasher relay....it looks like that is it. it is under my seat, and it literally makes my seat hot.

i do, in fact, have the old fuse block. i'll check out the sticky...Thank you!

The only flasher thing under the seat is the hazard light flasher. I had one that was getting hot like that and it was a shorted flasher unit. You can just unplug it and take it off. It has nothing to do with anything but the hazard lights.

The headlight and dash light issue is probably just a connector or a fuse making a poor connection.

greg, i know, i know, i know. i may not know all the fancy words, but i think i get a little credit for trying to get my hands dirty and turn something that was trash (and once pink) into something that is AWESOME!!!!!

i either need to spend more time googleing before i get on here, or get smarter.

                looks like more googleing.

but i always appreciate the humor and the help.. you guys have never let me down! thanks!
