XS1100spc mechanic needed Vancouver BC

My 1979 Xs1100 Special has been working great until I went to start it this week and found oil and fuel on the floor. Its still original and never opened up, I guess that's about to change. I am looking for an experienced XS1100 mechanic in Vancouver BC to assess and repair

Sounds like you left the fuel valves on and filled the motor up with gas. This is not hard to fix= turn the fuel cocks off and change the oil and filter.

I'm in Maple Ridge. Just finished rebuilding my carbs with a similar problem. Not a mechanic but an experienced enthusiast. Where abouts are you?

Yep, you need to change your oil soonest. Don't try to run the bike till you do. As far as the carbs are concerned, if you still have the octypus on, it failed. If not one of your floats either sunk from a hole in it or got hung up on the float bowl gasket.
Cleaning the carbs can be a pain but not all that difficult. For a new guy, getting them off the bike is the hardest part. Remove the seat and tank first.Now you need to remove the lower half of the air box (four wing nuts) loosen the air box and rear clamps from the bells, disconnect the two black hoses that connect the carb vent T's to the air box and slide it back out of the way. Then loosen the intake boot clamps and you will be able to pull the carbs back and out off the intake boot's. Tip them slightly and disconnect the throttle cable and with some wiggling they will slide out to the left with the octy still on. I find it easier to remove the octy but to each his own. There is a small black vacum hose connected to the #2 carb that needs to disconnected before you can work the carbs out from either side.
The actual disassembly and cleaning of the carbs is covered very well in "carb cleaning 101" and has become a sort of right of passage for XS owners.
However if your not comfortable with doing it or just don't have the time, place or tools, I can send you a clean set of carbs already set up for an SF, bench sync'd and leak tested. You send me your carbs, pay for my shipping and I'll send you this set.

If the octopus failed, you have the float valve problem in addition to it. The vacuum shutoff just failed to hide it.

+ 1 marty. Not knowing the history of the bike, a full tear down and cleaning of the carbs would be in order if it was mine. If the float sunk or is hung up though, the valve wouldn't get the oportunity to close.
