  • Micron fork brace and steering damper

    Hi XSives

I'm not sure if this is the correct section to post this but this section always seems busiest, so I'll try here first and see if it gets moved......

I've just removed two items from my latest project and will be selling them. The first is a vintage Micron billet aluminium fork brace and the second is a six position steering damper. I've no plans on using them on the latest XS as it just won't do the miles to warrant keeping them on. The fork brace is 100% solid and in excellent condition even before I polish it. The steering damper has some corrosion on the piston where it never goes into the cylinder but it has no leaks and works absolutely fine.

Both would travel small packet to the USA. I thought I'd offer them here as well as on eBay but cheaper for anyone here, of course. Just PM me if you're interested...Here's some pix...

Shame, but I don't think that Micron will fit a Special model.

      Do they have 37mm forks?

Fork diameter is the same, it bolt straight up on the forks. It's the fender which has a higher crown between the forks due to the forward wheel position that gets in the way. Thats why the T-Kat and other models have higher mounting points for the bridge piece for the special models.

The steering dampener seems to be a great conversation piece. What are the pros of using one?

            Hi James,
Since your R has Standard forks(no leading front axle), that brace will fit Standards ONLY. The mounting surface for the brace is 2mm smaller on the Special forks. Part of reason is two different manufacturers(Showia/KYB). BTW, polished up that would make someone with a Standard front-end happy, besides handling improvements that are immediately noticed at first 10mph turn. It will reduce tire cupping and save the 'unobtanium' bronze upper slider guides wear.

Question James, where is the mount for the off-set mounting bracket located on bike? (my Venturer may have possible interest for more stability at 'slab+' constant speeds).

It fits behind the oil cooler mounting bracket. The bracket bolts to the frame and the oil cooler then bolts into the bracket with two bolts per side. On my bike, the stanchion clamp was on the left stanchion and the damper ran across the front of the bike, with the bendy bracket bit bolted behind the oil cooler mount. But it would go the other way too...here's a pic before removal. I've since removed the surface rust that's visible on the piston and adjuster.

An XSive bought the micron brace by the way. Special XSive rate, eh Gareth??

The CCT has a piece of rubber hose held on with a jubilee clip! No doubt to cure the usual leak from the blanking plug. You can see it in the pic. I just bought a VMax ACCT from the USA....
