If there was a bolt just sitting there Im pretty sure it would have been seen.
That is the reason I'm one that pushes using the tool for the shims. Too many pieces for most to keep track of. The tool is difficult to learn to use but easy once you do.

I'm thinking one of the gear bolts was loose and came out. Was the bolt floating around in there a hex head or a allen head?

it was ex cam bolt from thr cam gear

the combustion chambers look excellent no damage

the 2 valves are only bent very slightly .. mechanic said i got really lucky and other than the obvious stuff should be good to go with a simple top end job

      excluding pistons

ill try to put up a couple pics

Many of us are running the EK chain from Z1 Enterprises, myself included.

Cam Chain EK 219H 128 link
Cam Chain EK 219H Master Link

Z1 has the tool as well. Chain Rivet & Breaker Tool

Mike's XS has a less expensive chain tool, and so does Parts n' More.

I hope you're back on the road soon!

There is a chance that you'll break the small pin learning to use it. Both Mike's XS and Parts n' More offer a replacement pin.

The cylinder head is separate from the cylinder case. The case stays on the engine and therefore, no bother with the piston rings.

When you break the old chain, you tie the new chain to it. You pull the new one through as you pull the old one out. In my case, untie it and drop the whole chain into the bottom of the engine. I easily fished it out with a magnet.

The job looks intimidating. Once you've done it, you will look back and remember how easy it was.
