Every state is different in how they tax vehicles. Here in Ohio, it is a flatvrate go register your plate based on the type of vehicle. A MC is about $60 a year. Some states like Ky it is a personal property tax to be paid with registration, that would be based on the value of the vehicle. So a brand new car could fetch $400 for your annual fee, while our bikes may only run $30.

Your $129 would be close to $200 US. I would think that would bevpricey anywhere in the states.

We are highly taxed on everything here. Gas at $10 a gallon, albeit an imperial one.

It was a typo re the displacement! The seller got his wife to do the listing and she got it wrong. And the wrong phone number too!

Yeah, much as we complain how taxed we are, it seems a little less than 250 years ago we suffered the same tax rates you have. Being on another continent made it a bit less of a challenge to do something about it though.

If "tax" is the UK's equivalent to the US's annual registration then we're a little better off on that regard, $18.00 here in PA for my XJ 750 Mid Max, but annual state inspection adds $ 25.00 more on to that total.
Also one, by law, needs to insure the vehicle to obtain registration and state inspection, which costs me $90.00 annually for the same bike.

James here in the USA it depends on which theifdom you live.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

O how lucky you guys are on the other side of the world, here in NewZealand annual registration for a motorcycle is based on its cc rating, 0-60cc is $395 per year, 61-600cc is $407 and anything over that is $521 ! cars are $280. A large percentage of the m/c fee is ACC ( Accident Compensation Corporation ) On top of that there's 6 monthly Warrant of Fitness checks for older bikes, $40, but new bikes not so often. On the other hand we don't have compulsory insurance like you guys.

So now that we are way off topic, I have always pondered if the pay rates in foreign countries with such high tax rates isn't higher to compensate. Seems like there is equal numbers in the same sort of economic state if you will.

                      Here in Ontario Canada;
Annual licence for motorcycle: $42 All taxed the same.
Mandatory Insurance $1186 Minimum coverage to protect the other guy and his vehicle...NO coverage for me or my bike. This for OVER 1000cc
Under 1000cc is about $800. Multiple bikes just keep adding it UP no break
which is why my 650 sits rotting in the garage.
Those are 12 month policies and even though it snows and is frozen wasteland for 1/2 the year they refuse to write shorter policies.

                      Alright I'll calm down now.

I think my registration fee is $15, and right now I am paying $20/mo. for a bare bones policy.

Ask them to break down Month by Month what your insurance costs you? You will find that during the winter months you pay a low percentage and during the riding season you will pay a higher amount. If you insure in July and take it off in Sept, then about 65% will be used up. If you insure in Dec and take it off, you will only lose about 10%. It is all figured in when and where we ride, so the 12 month coverage is not so bad.

Plates here in Alberta is $54 annual.

My insurance is $100 for the year.

I think that's pretty cheap probably because the motorbike is 35+ years old and its not a Harley LOL!!
