  • Cheap Bast--er I mean poor man's Pingel inline fuel valve?

So having CRS at 60 yrs of age, I have to confess, I've forgotten to turn my fuel tap to off a few times, after having removed the octopussy and depended on gravity ala many members here. Now once when i forgot to turn the tap to off I left the bike for about a week, and "perhaps" (not sure) felt that my oil might have had a whiff of gas. So now I never trust the float jets at all, and I certainly don't trust my memory. I am convinced the inline Pingel would be the way to insure myself, but alas I am a retired on a pension cheap bastard. So after a long diatribe, has anyone ever looked at these?

I wonder if they'd flow enough gas? Any thoughts other than "you get what you pay for" ?, because I gotta tell you, my Craftsmans tools are now made in China......

Probably won't flow enough gas. You would need 2 of them, 1 for each fuel tap, then maybe it would flow enough gas, I still doubt it though. I have seen electric 12V shutoff fuel valves that would also work that are about $30, and with larger 1/4" inlets. You could use just one of those with some T fittings to feed both carb fuel inlets.

Yes, I was looking at those last year when I did my resto Phil and thought that might be a way to go. Hmmmm time to do some pondering. :-)

These are pretty cool. I'll be installing something similar in the spring (whenever it decides to get here) when I switch to cheapo petcocks. Connected them right up to your ignition switch and you're good to go. Automagic!

Oh come on guys, who knows more about this, Yamaha with millions of dollars of research behind them, or me in my garage with a cheap chinese vacuum valve and some vinyl fuel line?

Ah hahahaa, this is just like the video we can't watch on xsplus. Not allowed to be viewed in Canada. You gotta love this. I guess us commie pinkos up north are just NOT trustworthy with this high technology.

                      Hi Courtney,
Nah, the TV blackouts ain't politics, it's money. Most likely those shows didn't pay Canadian royalties.
As for the fuel valve supplier not shipping outside of US borders, perhaps those folks in Ohio don't know how to make a cross-border shipment.
Their site does have an e-mail addy, perhaps you could contact them and ask?

Not to worry Fred, I have a US address as well for shipments, so when I want it, I will order it. Not sure I want electric though, really like the idea of the vacuum. I have a new diaphragm for the octopussy so might just resurrect that with all it's hideous lines et al. :-) Just have to find super thin fuel line to run it with and those little dinky fuel clamps.

                          Hi Courtney,
trouble with the electric valve is that it (presumably) turns on and off with the ignition and what if the CRS kicks in and you forget to turn the key off after the bike stalled when you got home?
Yeah, if you go back to vacuum you may as well resurrect the ol' octopus.
At our advanced ages we'll be drooling & mumbling in the old fart's home long before the octo's new fuel hoses harden and fail.
