I bought a pristine, low mileage, shed kept '81 Special a couple years ago.. then wrecked pretty good with it. I took a sidecover and tank in for paint and they used a computer to mix the color. Compared that sidecover to the original in the sun and shade.. perfect match.

Then I wrecked again a bit up in Wisconsin and dented the tank again. He told me he'd keep that color of red saved always in his computer for me. lol. I can probably get the color code from him if needed and the type of paint that body shop uses.

For those on a budget that want this color, surprisingly, Rustoleum has a red that is so close, it's nearly undetectable, especially if you spray a gloss over it. If you're any good with a rattle can, this paint has a decent spraying tip. It's what we tried the first time to paint the sidecovers, but we kept getting one or two tiny flaws and finally took it to someone who knew what they were doing.
